TOMI UNGERERS LANDLEBEN
TOMI UNGERER
“The power of friendship between Adlon and Ungerer is the same as the power of the 3-hour Tomi-Ungerer-Night."
– Zürcher Neue Zeitung - International (ZNN)
Percy Adlon made four films about eccentric artist Tomi Ungerer, the scion of a family of Alsatian watchmakers who, at just 26, became one of New York’s most popular illustrators.
TOMI UNGERERS LANDLEBEN
(Tomi Ungerer's Country Life), 1973
German, 44 min
After 70 books and thousands of cartoons in fifteen turbulent years, Tomi Ungerer left the "plastic society" and began a new life on a farm in Nova Scotia, accompanied by his beautiful wife, Yvonne. In his unique mix of German, French, and English, he talks about his new love, the powerful nature of the Canadian coast, and reveals his wild character, from which nightmares and laughter erupt into a constant stream of images.
